Inflammation and inflammation are not exactly the same thing, however, the two are somewhat related. Inflammation is a Western medical term for the pathological process of many diseases in which there is an inflammatory response that can be explained by inflammation. In contrast, epiglottis is a less standardized TCM term that generally refers to a combination of symptoms that manifest as redness or pain in the eyes, red and swollen gums, sore throat, and sometimes simply bad breath and bleeding gums. Some of these symptoms of fire can be explained through the Western medical pathology of inflammation, however, some may not be so easily explained. For the inflammatory response, it is relatively broad, and only a small fraction can lead to the symptoms of fire. The reason why the two are difficult to explain each other is that they belong to two different systems, and to explain each other between the two is actually to perform a combination of Western and Chinese medicine, which is sometimes more difficult.
