Postoperative precautions for lumbar disc herniation

Precautions 1. Bed rest: It is an important part of postoperative treatment. Bed rest is required for a period of time after surgery, and patients are routinely bedridden for two or three days after surgery. Generally, patients after internal fixation surgery get out of bed early, due to the protection of internal fixation; simple medullary nucleus removal gets out of bed late, because the scar formation of the fiber ring takes a longer time. The specific time is determined by the habit of each hospital and each surgeon, ranging from three to five days to several months. The bed should preferably be an extra hard Simmons or hard board bed with a thick pad. During bed rest, turning should be assisted by someone else, shoulders and hips should be turned over at the same time, and the waist should not be twisted so as not to affect the healing of the lumbar muscles and ligaments. Use a urinal and disposable diapers, relieve urine and stool in bed, and try not to raise the hips. After the bed rest phase, you can start to move indoors gradually, but at first you still need to wear a waist brace for about six weeks to protect your waist. 2.Exercise: From the time the drainage tube is removed after surgery, the patient should gradually strengthen the lumbar back muscle exercise, and should persist even more after resuming daily activities. You can lie down facing the sky, use the heels of both sides and the back of the shoulders as fulcrums, contract the muscles of the low back to lift the hips off the bed, hold them for a few seconds and then put them down slowly, and practice repeatedly. Can also lie on the bed, using the abdomen as a fulcrum, legs straight, hands clasped behind the head, active contraction of the lumbosacral muscles, efforts to lift the head and legs from the bed at the same time, hold for a few seconds and then slowly put down. Or lie on your side in bed, straighten your lower limbs, lift them upward with force, hold them for a while and then put them down again, repeatedly for many times, which can strengthen the muscle strength and facilitate early recovery. 3, daily life: it is very important to quit smoking, especially for patients who have undergone lumbar fusion surgery. You can drink a small amount of red wine. After the indoor activities have no problem, you can turn to outdoor activities and go for a walk in the neighborhood and nearby streets. About 2-3 months after surgery, you can resume non-manual work such as sitting in the office. About 3-4 months after surgery, you can resume some physical work as appropriate, but you should always avoid bending over to carry heavy objects and carrying heavy objects on your shoulder. In daily life, we should avoid bad postures such as bending and arching the back, and avoid strenuous sports. For young women who have not yet had children, they should consider pregnancy and childbirth after a period of complete recovery, such as one year after surgery, otherwise it will easily lead to recurrence or even aggravation of pre-operative symptoms. 4, winter prevention: Because of the cold and wet winter, arthritis enters a period of high incidence, middle-aged and elderly people, especially those with joint disease, had better wear thick clothes, if necessary, you can thicken the clothing at the joints, do not contact the cool wind. In terms of diet, it is important to have a reasonable nutritional mix and reduce the intake of high-fat foods. Since outdoor activities are relatively reduced in winter, and the reduced contact with sunlight will directly affect the deposition of calcium, it is especially important for middle-aged and elderly people to take proper calcium supplements. If you suffer from gouty arthritis, you should pay attention to the consumption of seafood, such as sea cucumber, sea fish, sea shrimp, etc., because this will increase the uric acid, the formation of uric acid salt crystals in the joints, making the symptoms of arthrosis aggravated.
