A mild drop in body temperature in the days following ovulation in infertile women is usually a physiological phenomenon. A woman’s body temperature before ovulation is usually below 36.6℃, while after ovulation the body temperature will rise 0.3~0.5℃ to about 37℃, the details vary from person to person. Because the progesterone secreted by the corpus luteum formed after ovulation acts on the thermoregulatory center to raise the body temperature. Generally, the rise in body temperature lasts until 1~2 days before the onset of menstruation, after which changes in a woman’s body temperature can produce two situations. If a woman’s ovum combines with sperm to form a fertilized egg, the corpus luteum of pregnancy is formed, and progesterone is secreted, and the woman’s body temperature is maintained at about 37℃. If a woman’s egg is not fertilized, the corpus luteum will shrink and stop secreting progesterone, and the woman will have her menstrual cycle, and her body temperature will gradually drop to below 36.6℃. Each person’s physical condition is different, and so is the change in body temperature. The exact temperature varies from person to person, and further counseling at the local hospital is recommended.
