A one and a half year old baby with a fever of 39.5°C should first be immediately given oral antipyretics, such as ibuprofen and acetaminophen, which should always be available at home. Immediately go to the hospital for consultation and ask the doctor to help find the cause of the fever and treat it for the cause. Parents should record in detail the pattern of fever, the maximum temperature, and any accompanying symptoms, such as cough, runny nose, headache, dizziness, weakness, rash, joint pain, etc. Reduce your baby’s clothing to keep him/her in a cool and comfortable environment, and give him/her plenty of water, as fever can easily lead to dehydration. If your baby’s limbs are cold with chills, you can soak your hands and feet in warm water. If the baby’s limbs are warm and there are no chills, you can use ice, ice packs, cold towels to apply cold compresses to the baby’s head, armpits, neck and other parts of the large blood vessels.
