How to determine androgenetic alopecia

Androgenetic alopecia can be determined by clinical manifestations, hair pulling test, and dermoscopy.
1. Clinical manifestations: male androgenetic alopecia is characterized by M-shaped hair loss with a frontal hairline that gradually becomes higher; in women, hair thinning in the middle and upper part of the body is more obvious in those with a family history of the disease.
2. Hair pulling test: Ask the patient to go home and not wash his hair within 5 days, gently pull up a cluster of hair with his fingers, the approximate number of hair is about 50~60, and then gently slide out along the hair shaft to the end of the hair to observe the number of hairs that fall out, the number of hairs that fall out is more than 6, indicating that the patient is in active alopecia at this time.
3. Dermoscopy: In the hospital examination, dermoscopy can be done to observe the hair growth and follicle condition. Androgenetic alopecia patients dermoscopy can generally be observed in the hair single hair increased significantly, there are thick and thin, part of the follicle closure, hair follicle hair reduction, cui-ui hair increase, hair shaft and the diameter gap between the hair shaft > 20%, hair is mainly fine and soft.
