Cough is one of the most common symptoms of respiratory diseases and has a protective role in removing foreign bodies and secretions from the respiratory tract. Coughs are categorized into three types based on the duration and cause of coughing, i.e., acute, subacute and chronic coughs. They can be differentiated according to the duration of the cough.
1. Acute cough: cough duration of less than 3 weeks cough, common causes of colds, pharyngitis, acute attacks caused by chronic bronchitis, bronchitis, usually due to inflammatory factors or allergens caused by the common allergic body of the population.
2. Subacute cough: refers to a cough that lasts for 3 to 8 weeks or less, usually associated with nasopharyngitis and cough due to airway hyperreactivity.
3. Chronic cough: refers to a cough lasting more than 8 weeks in adults and more than 4 weeks in children. Common causes include reflux esophagitis, cough variant asthma, tuberculosis, and chronic bronchitis.
Cough can also be divided into dry cough, non-dry cough and so on according to whether there is sputum, patients should consult the doctor in time to find out the cause, according to the cause and type of cough by the doctor to formulate targeted treatment programs.
