The common causes of vomiting with blood are peptic ulcer, rupture of esophagogastric fundus varices, acute erosive hemorrhagic gastritis, gastric cancer and so on.
1. Peptic ulcer: refers to the ulcer formed when the mucosa of gastrointestinal tract is digested by itself. When peptic ulcer erodes the blood vessels around or deep inside, it can produce different degrees of bleeding, which can be manifested as black stool in mild cases and vomiting blood in severe cases.
2. Rupture of esophagogastric fundal varices: mostly caused by portal hypertension, triggered by rough food, erosion of gastric acid, increased intra-abdominal pressure, etc. The main manifestations are sudden profuse vomiting of blood, black stools, accompanied by hemorrhagic shock.
3. Acute erosive-hemorrhagic gastritis: characterized by multiple erosions of gastric mucosa, if the gastric mucosa ruptures and bleeds, it may manifest as vomiting of blood, black stool, epigastric discomfort and other symptoms.
4. Gastric cancer: refers to malignant tumor originated from epithelial cells of gastric mucosa. Early gastric cancer is asymptomatic, while progressive gastric cancer may have symptoms such as epigastric pain, anorexia, fatigue, etc. Bleeding of ulcerative gastric cancer may cause vomiting blood or black stool, followed by anemia.
