To investigate the clinical efficacy of PFNA in the treatment of intertrochanteric fractures of the femur. Methods From February 2010 to May 2012, 42 cases of femoral intertrochanteric fractures were treated with closed reduction PFNA internal fixation. The clinical efficacy of PFNA in the treatment of femoral intertrochanteric fractures was investigated. Methods From February 2010 to May 2012, 42 cases of femoral intertrochanteric fractures were treated with closed reduction PFNA internal fixation. According to Evans’ staging: 21 cases of type Ib, 8 cases of type Ic, 7 cases of type Id, and 6 cases of type II. No external fixation was required after surgery. Results All patients completed the surgery safely and were followed up for 5D24 months with a mean of 18.5 months; all fracture ends showed significant bone scab formation and no internal fixation failure. Clinical outcomes were excellent in 34 cases, good in 6 cases, acceptable in 1 case, and poor in 1 case according to Sanders’ assessment criteria, with an excellent rate of 95.2%. Conclusion PFNA is one of the ideal methods for treating intertrochanteric fracture of the femur because of its easy operation, compliance with the principle of biological fixation, reliable fixation, small trauma, low bone loss, few complications, and especially suitable for elderly patients.
