What’s wrong with lethargy in advanced liver cancer?

The lethargy of patients with advanced stage of liver cancer is usually considered to be caused by extreme physical weakness, complication of hepatic encephalopathy and application of certain drugs. In the treatment of lethargy in patients with advanced stage of liver cancer, prolonging patients’ life and minimizing patients’ pain are the principles of treatment. 1. Extreme physical weakness: due to poor digestion and absorption ability of patients with advanced stage of liver cancer, nutrition can not meet the needs of human body, patients will suffer from anemia and malnutrition, which will lead to lethargy and so on. 2. Hepatic encephalopathy: as the concentration of blood ammonia will increase after advanced liver cancer, resulting in poisoning, high blood ammonia can affect the central nervous system, which can be manifested as fluttering tremor, drowsiness, coma and so on. 3. Due to application of certain drugs: patients with advanced liver cancer will suffer great pain due to pain and other factors, at this time, physicians will apply some sedatives, such as eszopiclone, etc., which can lead to lethargy; and when platinum and other chemotherapeutic drugs are applied, lethargy may also occur. There may be other reasons for lethargy in advanced stage of liver cancer, and patients need to go to regular hospitals for hospitalization and be treated by physicians according to patients’ conditions, and they can not use medicines indiscriminately.
