Patients feel spinning in the sky while lying down. If the transient spinning sensation occurs during lying down, it is considered to be caused by benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, also known as otolithosis. Because the otolith particles in the balance receptors are dislodged, when the position of the person’s head changes, the dislodged otoliths will swim with the endolymphatic fluid. When the semicircular canal cell membrane is irritated, the patient exhibits episodes of dizziness with spinning symptoms. When the patient’s head position is fixed, the dizziness and spinning symptoms can be relieved quickly and will not last more than a minute. During dizziness, a rotational nystagmus can be observed, and treatment is mainly through manual repositioning.
