Hernia in children under 1 year of age has the potential to heal on its own and can be tried with a hernia belt. Children older than one year of age have little chance of healing on their own and require surgery. Surgery can also be done in summer, and the chance of “inflammation” is no higher than in other seasons. If an incarcerated hernia is found, surgery should be performed in a timely manner. If an incarcerated hernia is found, emergency surgery is needed, which is very traumatic and costly, it will not be worth it. Be careful not to let the child cry or fuss to prevent impaction.
