Adenoid hypertrophy is usually caused by repeated episodes of acute and chronic nasopharyngitis, rhinitis-sinusitis, tonsillitis, etc. involving the nasopharynx. 1. Acute and chronic nasopharyngitis: repeated episodes of acute and chronic nasopharyngitis stimulate the adenoids to pathologic hyperplasia. 2. Rhinitis and sinusitis: the secretion of rhinitis and sinusitis flows backward to the nasopharynx, stimulating the hypertrophy and enlargement of adenoids; adenoid hypertrophy blocks the posterior nostrils, which can aggravate the inflammation of rhinitis and sinusitis. 3. Tonsillitis: it may also be caused by tonsillitis, when tonsillitis recurs, it will stimulate the surrounding lymphatic tissue and adenoids, thus inducing adenoid hyperplasia leading to adenoid hypertrophy. The incidence of the disease is higher in cold and humid areas, and it is considered that a cold and humid environment may be a predisposing factor for the disease. Adenoid hypertrophy can cause nasal congestion, blocking the pharyngeal opening of the Eustachian tube, can cause secretory otitis media, resulting in ear stuffiness hearing loss; throat and lower respiratory tract symptoms, pharyngeal discomfort, paroxysmal coughing, bronchitis, etc.; and snoring and sleep breath-holding phenomenon. Therefore, if patients with symptoms of adenoid hypertrophy, they should go to the hospital in time, to clarify the cause of the disease and standardize the treatment.
