Time to eat after breast cancer surgery

Breast cancer surgery is usually intubated with general anesthesia. 6 hours after resuscitation from general anesthesia, patients can eat normally according to their needs. It is recommended to eat high protein and easy to digest food because after general anesthesia, patients mostly have nausea and vomiting, poor appetite and pain in the throat, which are not suitable for swallowing. Therefore, the diet after breast cancer surgery should be high protein and easily digestible liquid, which can help the recovery of the gastrointestinal tract and promote the patient’s recovery as soon as possible. Breast cancer surgery usually requires at least 12 hours of fasting and 8 hours of drinking 1 day before surgery. The purpose is to try to avoid the risk of airway blockage caused by regurgitation of gastric contents after general anesthesia. The respiratory secretions of patients will increase after general anesthesia, and if there is completely unemptied food or water in the stomach and intestines, it may cause regurgitation of gastric contents after general anesthesia, blocking the airway and causing life-threatening problems.
