Tooth extraction is one of the common surgical procedures in oral surgery, but sometimes there are complications. If the tooth is not easily extracted, the operation time will be prolonged or even there is a possibility of various complications during and after the operation, so the preparation before tooth extraction is very important for the patient and cannot be ignored. So what should be done as a patient? I. Preparation to be done before tooth extraction surgery First of all, rest well the day before tooth extraction to ensure sufficient sleep, mental relaxation, eliminate mental worries and put your body and mind in a good condition. Secondly, you should eat before tooth extraction on the day of extraction to avoid tooth extraction on an empty stomach. Some patients think that they cannot eat before tooth extraction because they are afraid that the anesthetic will cause nausea and vomiting, but this understanding is wrong. This is because injecting anesthetic first on an empty stomach can cause palpitations and even fainting. Some older patients should pay more attention to stop taking anticoagulant drugs such as aspirin and control blood pressure and blood sugar under the advice of doctors. Whether the tooth extraction surgery can be carried out smoothly or not is mainly determined by whether the doctor, nurse and patient cooperate well, because the surgery is carried out under local anesthesia, even if the doctor and nurse have excellent medical skills, it cannot be carried out without the cooperation of the patient. Before the extraction, the patient can consult about the precautions to be taken during the procedure in order to cooperate well with the doctor. Patients should choose a comfortable seat after sitting according to the instruction, and do not open the mouth without limit when extracting teeth, as some patients have dislocated their joints or suffered from joint pain due to excessive opening. The opening limit should be conducive to the doctor’s operation and not to add new pain to oneself. During the extraction process, due to the malposition of the teeth, it is sometimes necessary to knock on the extraction instruments to facilitate the smooth extraction of the teeth, and there is a sense of vibration when knocking. It is worth noting that patients should adjust their emotions when extracting teeth, so that they are in a relaxed state, build up confidence and cooperate well with the doctor. Otherwise, if the patient is in a highly tense state, he or she may experience discomfort such as fainting, cold hands and feet, heavy sweating and so on. In addition, listen to the guidance of the doctor and nurse, only when the doctor, nurse and patient cooperate tacitly, the tooth extraction surgery will be completed successfully soon. Third, post-extraction care After tooth extraction, if you do not pay attention to protect the extraction wound, it will also cause serious consequences, so patients need to pay attention to several issues. 1. After tooth extraction, the cotton gauze roll must be bitten tightly in order to play the role of pressure to stop bleeding, and biting too loosely will increase the chance of bleeding. Within 24 hours after tooth extraction, it is normal for the wound to have a little blood oozing and light red blood mixed in saliva, do not think it is bleeding and panic. 2. The cotton gauze roll in the patient’s mouth should be bitten for 30 minutes and then spit out, which can be extended to 1 hour if there is more bleeding. However, the cotton gauze roll should not be bitten for too long, otherwise it will increase the sense of odor and discomfort in the patient’s mouth, and also increase the chance of infection and bleeding. 3. Do not lick and suck the wound with your tongue after tooth extraction, or spit and suck repeatedly because of the odor in the mouth and discomfort of the extraction wound, otherwise it will increase the negative pressure in the mouth, which will affect the clot attachment and cause bleeding. 4. You can eat some warm and cool food after spitting out the cotton gauze roll. Eat liquid or semi-liquid food on the day of tooth extraction and do not eat food that is too hard or too hot to avoid touching the wound and causing bleeding. Some patients are afraid to eat for fear of wound infection, which is wrong because not eating will cause the muscle resistance to decrease and lack of nutrition in the body, making the wound more susceptible to infection. 5. Do not brush your teeth and rinse your mouth within 24 hours after tooth extraction, and rinse your mouth only, otherwise it may wash off the clot in the extraction socket and affect the wound healing. 6. If there is obvious bleeding, pain, swelling, fever, difficulty in opening mouth, etc. after tooth extraction, you should follow up promptly and do not delay the treatment. 7. For patients with sutures in the extraction wound, come to the hospital to remove the sutures 5-7 days after the operation, not too short or too long. If the time is too short, the wound is not completely healed and the sutures are removed at this time, the wound will be easily cracked; if the time is too long, the wound will be easily infected and the healed wound may be cracked again. On the day of tooth extraction, you should pay attention to rest and not to move too much. If you are uncomfortable, you can go to the hospital for a review the next day according to your condition.
