What’s with the brown discharge after your period?

There are physiologic and pathologic factors associated with brown discharge after a period. Physiologic factors are considered to be related to menstruation that is not completely clean and ovulatory bleeding. Pathological factors are related to uterine submucous fibroids, endometrial polyps, cervical polyps and so on.
1. Endometrial polyp: a mass protruding from the surface of the endometrium caused by overgrowth of endometrial mesenchyme and glands, usually accompanied by long duration of menstruation, heavy menstruation, dribbling, and brownish discharge, etc. The diagnosis is confirmed by hysteroscopy and directly removed by hysteroscopic surgery.
2. Uterine cervical polyps: due to chronic inflammation stimulating the mucosal hyperplasia of the inner cervix protruding towards the cervical opening, polyps can be manifested as brownish discharge after menstruation, bleeding during coitus, etc., which can be diagnosed and treated with laser or electrocautery.
3. Uterine submucosal fibroid: due to high estrogen level, heredity and endometrial damage, etc., uterine submucosal fibroid is often accompanied by necrosis, endometrial infection and so on, resulting in irregular bleeding, brown discharge after menstruation, and also accompanied by lower abdominal pain and other symptoms. Hysteroscopic removal of uterine mucosal polyps is required.
Brown discharge after the aunt in addition to exclude physiological factors, need to go to the hospital in a timely manner to consult, clarify the cause of the disease and then treatment.
