Do all gastric polyps need to be biopsied after removal?

Gastric polyps have to be biopsied after removal.
Gastric polyps are categorized into inflammatory gastric polyps, hyperplastic gastric polyps, and adenomatous gastric polyps. The first two types of gastric polyps usually do not cause cancer, while adenomatous gastric polyps may become cancerous.
Therefore, after gastric polypectomy, a biopsy should be done to determine the type of gastric polyp through pathologic examination.
If the gastric polyp is benign, regular follow-up gastroscopy is sufficient and no further treatment is needed.
If the gastric polyp is cancerous, it may spread to other organs. After diagnosis, it is necessary to determine the extent of the lesion and whether chemotherapy is needed routinely after surgery to inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells and reduce the risk of recurrence.
Therefore, it is necessary to do pathological examination after gastric polyp removal surgery, so that early detection and early treatment can be avoided.
