Excessive bowel movement may be caused by improper diet, or by diseases such as irritable bowel syndrome, ulcerative colitis, rectal cancer, etc. You should consult a doctor in time to find out the cause of the disease. 1. Improper diet: If you consume too much cold, greasy, spicy and irritating food, such as ice-cream and hot pot, it can stimulate gastrointestinal peristalsis, which will lead to an increase in the number of bowel movements. Generally, it can be gradually relieved by adjusting the diet. 2. Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS): This is a common gastrointestinal dysfunction disease, the cause of which may be related to food, heredity, intestinal infections and so on. Patients may have abnormal defecation symptoms, manifested as increased frequency of bowel movements, but the amount of each bowel movement is small, mostly mucus thin stools, may also appear abdominal pain, diarrhea and constipation alternately. 3. Ulcerative colitis: recurrent diarrhea, mucus, pus and blood stools and abdominal pain are the main clinical symptoms. The number of bowel movements of patients is related to the severity of the disease, in mild cases, the number of bowel movements can be up to 10 times/day, and even a large amount of blood in the stools, which may be accompanied by systemic manifestations such as fever and malnutrition. 4. Rectal cancer: refers to malignant tumors originated from epithelial cells of rectal mucosa. When the tumor progresses to a certain degree, symptoms such as frequent bowel movement, change of bowel habit, urgency and heaviness, mucus stool and so on may appear. Excessive bowel movement may also be caused by other reasons, such as acute gastroenteritis, bacillary dysentery, intestinal tuberculosis, hyperthyroidism, and prolonged excessive bowel movement, which should be consulted in time to clarify the cause of the disease and be treated accordingly.
