Brain lymphoma is usually treated with systemic chemotherapy treatment, or radiotherapy treatment, depending on the stage of the disease, pathology and patient status.
Brain lymphoma is a relatively rare type of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and the prognosis is often poor. Due to the infiltration of the tumor into the central nervous system, it can be manifested as headache, diplopia, and unsteadiness. Hormone therapy, radiotherapy, surgery and other treatments are mainly chosen.
1. Dehydration and hormone therapy: the use of dehydration and hormone therapy can improve the patient’s symptoms significantly in a short period of time, but the duration of this kind of efficacy is relatively short, and the symptoms will usually recur after a few weeks to a few months.
2. Radiotherapy: It is generally recommended to carry out whole brain radiotherapy first, and then reduce to the lesion and edema area and increase the radiotherapy dose. Spinal radiotherapy should be considered if tumor cells are detected in the cerebrospinal fluid, if the lesion in the brain infiltrates the ventricular wall, or if the patient develops symptoms of spinal cord compression.
3. Chemotherapy: chemotherapy should use drugs that can cross the blood-brain barrier, which can slow down the growth of lymphoma, reduce the symptoms of patients and prolong their lives; patients with good physical condition are usually treated with high-dose chemotherapy, and commonly used drugs such as cytarabine and methotrexate, etc., which are able to pass the blood-brain barrier in large doses to achieve the purpose of killing the tumor.
4. Surgery: for patients with single lesion or particularly large lesion that has caused serious intracranial pressure increase, surgical resection of the lesion causing obvious occupying effect can be considered, followed by effective radiotherapy.
If you suffer from cerebral lymphoma, it is recommended to go to the hospital in time, and choose the appropriate treatment plan under the guidance of the doctor, so as not to delay the condition.
