Acupuncture points that can dispel dampness include Sanyinjiao, Fenglong and Taibai.
Sanyinjiao is located three inches above the inner ankle of the foot, at the posterior edge of the tibia, and has the effect of regulating the liver and kidneys, invigorating the spleen and inducing dampness, and is useful for oedema and dysuria (unruly urination) caused by heavy dampness.
Fenglong point is located eight inches below the eye of the external knee and has the effect of resolving phlegm and dispelling dampness, and is effective for dizziness, drowsiness, cough and headache caused by phlegm and dampness in the body.
Tai Bai point is located at the posterior edge of the first metatarsophalangeal joint, at the intersection of the red and white flesh (the junction between the palm of the hand and the back of the hand, and the heart of the foot and the back of the foot), which is effective in strengthening the spleen and resolving dampness, regulating qi and harmonizing the stomach, and is effective in treating abdominal pain, intestinal sounding, abdominal distension, vomiting, and diarrhea caused by a deficiency of the spleen with an abundance of dampness.
Sanyinjiao, Fenglong and Taibai can be stimulated by massage, acupuncture and moxibustion, but it should be carried out by a professional Chinese medicine practitioner or acupuncture physiotherapist, and individuals should not operate on their own in order to avoid causing adverse accidents.
