Reasons for short thumbs

Patients with short thumbs have congenital genetic factors and family history. In infancy and adolescence, fractures of the thumb due to external forces or damage to the epiphysis can cause the bones of the thumb to stop developing. If a fracture of the thumb occurs, the patient may have a shortened thumb due to a shortening deformity that is not treated in a timely manner. A clear judgment is made at the time of treatment, and then symptomatic treatment is taken according to the specific disease. If there is a shortening deformity due to a fracture, bone lengthening surgery can be performed to restore the length of the thumb.
