The treatment of cough at the Tian Tu acupoint belongs to the proximal therapeutic action of the acupoint. Tian Tu is located in the anterior neck area and can treat lung system conditions and qi dysfunction (poor flow of gases in the body) conditions. Specifically, Tian Tu belongs to the Ren Vessel point, located in the center of the upper fossa of the sternum in the neck, on the anterior midline, and is the meeting point of the Ren Vessel and the Yin Wei Vessel. It is used to treat cough, asthma, sternum, sore throat, rales, bronchial asthma, bronchitis, goiter, and other conditions, as well as galls, plum nucleus qi (similar to pharyngeal dysphagia), choking and hiccups, hysteria, and so on. For the treatment of asthma, it can be paired with Tingpian, Tanzhong and Fenglong, and for the treatment of cough, it can be paired with Lung Yu, Da Shi and Diaphragm Yu. You can gently rub this point with your fingertips, or use moxibustion or acupuncture.
