How soon can you walk on the ground with a broken leg

The time to be able to walk on the ground after a leg fracture is related to a number of factors and is usually around 8-12 weeks. If the fracture heals well after 8 weeks, you can consider walking without full weight bearing. In the case of thigh fractures, i.e. femoral stem fractures, the healing period is also about 8 weeks, but since the femoral stem is heavily weight-bearing, early walking on the ground may cause the risk of re-fracture or plate fracture, so it is recommended to walk on the ground after 12 weeks. During walking, if there is significant swelling and pain, it is important to stop it in time to avoid the risk of swelling and pain in the affected limb, or even excessive activity leading to another fracture. Walking on the ground with a fractured leg does not mean that you can move around like a normal person, there is still a rehabilitation period, mainly incomplete weight-bearing in the early stage, and most of the rehabilitation time from incomplete to full weight-bearing is about four weeks.
