An asymptomatic increase in the internal diameter of the right atrium may be caused by tricuspid valve pathology, by pulmonary hypertension, or by dilated cardiomyopathy, with different causes and different treatments.
1. Tricuspid valve lesions: Both tricuspid stenosis and tricuspid valve closure insufficiency may lead to an increase in the internal diameter of the right atrium. Tricuspid stenosis can be treated by percutaneous balloon dilatation valvuloplasty, tricuspid junction osteotomy and other surgical procedures; tricuspid valve repair, tricuspid valve replacement and other surgical procedures to treat tricuspid valve closure insufficiency.
2. Pulmonary arterial hypertension: Pulmonary arterial hypertension leads to increased afterload of the right heart, so the manifestation of increased internal diameter of the right atrium can also occur, and the patient is also accompanied by the enlargement of the right ventricle. Treatment can take bosentan, anisentan, leucovorin and other drugs for treatment, can also take warfarin and other anticoagulants to prevent thrombosis in the small arteries of the lungs.
3. Dilated cardiomyopathy: Patients with dilated cardiomyopathy will have enlargement of the whole heart, including the right atrium, which can be treated with drugs such as captopril, enalapril, carvedilol, metoprolol, spironolactone, and ivabradine.
In addition to the above diseases, other causes can also lead to patients with asymptomatic enlargement of the right atrium, it is recommended to consult a doctor in time to find out the cause and follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment.
