Arterial blood is primarily used to perform blood gas analysis tests. This test is mainly used to determine whether the patient has hypoxemia, whether respiratory failure occurs, and so on.
1. Hypoxemia. If the partial pressure of oxygen is lower than 80mmHg in the examination, it is judged that the patient may have hypoxemia. Meanwhile, the degree of hypoxemia can be further determined according to the patient’s oxygen partial pressure value.
2. Respiratory failure. If the patient’s oxygen partial pressure is less than 60mmHg, the patient may have respiratory failure. If the partial pressure is less than 60mmHg, the patient may have type I respiratory failure. If the patient not only has an oxygen partial pressure of less than 60 mmHg, but also has a carbon dioxide partial pressure of more than 50 mmHg, the patient may have type II respiratory failure.
3. Other. Acid-base imbalance, etc. If the patient’s pH is lower than 7.35, the patient may have acidosis. If the pH is more than 7.45, the patient may have alkalosis.
Warm tips: arterial blood has important diagnostic significance for the above situations, but still need to be combined with the patient’s symptoms, signs, other tests and other comprehensive judgment.
