Causes of abdominal distension in advanced stage of liver cancer may include: tumor compressing intestinal tract, abdominal infection, large amount of ascites formation and so on. 1. Tumor compressing intestinal tract: with the progressive enlargement of tumor, it may affect intestinal blood reflux when it presses on intestinal tract, so that intestinal peristalsis is restricted, which may be manifested as abdominal distension. 2. Abdominal infection: liver function of patients with advanced stage of liver cancer is impaired, meanwhile, due to the consumption of disease, body immunity is lowered, and bacterial migration in the intestines may cause abdominal infection, resulting in spontaneous peritonitis, which may be manifested as abdominal distension and abdominal pain. 3. Massive ascites formation: patients with advanced stage of liver cancer may suffer from hypoproteinemia due to decreased protein synthesis ability or intra-abdominal dissemination of tumor, which may lead to massive ascites formation in abdominal cavity, which may also cause abdominal distension.
