What kind of films are taken for kidney stones

The commonly used X-ray examination method for kidney stones in clinic is also known as urological plain film examination, clinically known as KUB. before performing urological plain film examination, patients should preferably fast and perform intestinal preparation, so that the display can be clear. If the urogram alone cannot show the size and location of the stone, intravenous pyelography can be performed to clarify the location and size of the stone. Fasting and bowel preparation are also required before performing an intravenous pyelogram, with the goal of excluding interference from bowel gas. If neither urography nor intravenous pyelography is effective, a urographic CT may be performed to determine the size and location of the stones. If the urologic plain CT also fails to identify the stone, urologic CTU or nuclear magnetic MRU can be performed.
