Patients with prune nucleus qi (similar to pharyngeal allodynia) may exhibit frequent throat clearing. Patients with prune nucleus qi may attempt to clear their throat by coughing, phlegm, and other throat clearing maneuvers to relieve the discomfort, but instead may make the original symptoms worse. Plum nucleus qi refers to a foreign body sensation in the pharynx, such as the obstruction of plum nuclei, clucking out and swallowing. Obstruction in the pharynx in the swallowing action, especially in the swallowing of saliva feel obvious, swallowing food, but no abnormal feeling or even some relief, check the throat or neighboring organs and no organic lesions.
