What is the cause of alpha-fetoprotein 600 μg/L?

Alpha-fetoprotein 600μg/L suggests that the value of alpha-fetoprotein is high, which may be caused by physiological factors such as pregnancy, or pathological factors such as liver cancer.
1. Physiological factors: the level of alpha-fetoprotein will increase during pregnancy, and its level will increase with the increase of pregnancy month, and usually it will decrease to the normal level around 3 weeks after delivery.
2. Pathologic factors:
(1) Fetal anomalies: if alpha-fetoprotein is significantly elevated during pregnancy, it suggests that there may be fetal neural tube malformations, preeclampsia and other diseases.
(2) Malignant tumors: elevated alpha-fetoprotein is common in patients with primary liver cancer, and most of them have serum alpha-fetoprotein level higher than 300 μg/L. In addition, other malignant tumors, such as testicular cancer, ovarian cancer, teratoma, gastric cancer, pancreatic cancer, etc., can also lead to elevated alpha-fetoprotein.
(3) Viral hepatitis and liver cirrhosis: according to the different degree of liver cell damage, the level of alpha-fetoprotein in serum will be elevated to different degrees.
When the alpha-fetoprotein is 600μg/L, it is recommended to consult a doctor immediately for a clear diagnosis and targeted treatment under the guidance of a doctor.
