The role of the cervical collar

The cervical brace, clinically known as a cervical brace, has the following functions: First, it can play a very good role in fixing the cervical spine, whether as a temporary fixation or as a final fixation, the cervical brace is very widely used in clinical practice. For example, if a patient has a fracture or dislocation of the cervical spine, or if the cervical spine is unstable, a cervical brace can be used as a way of fixation. Once the cervical spine is fully immobilized, the patient’s clinical symptoms, such as pain, stiffness and instability in the neck, will be significantly improved. In addition, wearing a cervical brace is also suitable for emergency immobilization at the scene of an emergency to prevent secondary injury. Second, the physiological curvature of the cervical spine can be maintained. When wearing a neck brace, due to the curvature of the brace itself, the patient will follow the brace to passively do the head lifting action, which can maintain a normal physiological curvature of the cervical vertebrae, thus relieving the pain and stiffness of the neck. Third, it can relieve the muscle spasm of the neck. After wearing the neck brace, the muscles of the neck do not need to maintain high tension, which will gradually relax the muscles of the neck over time, thus relieving its spasm.
