If you get a pencil in your eye, you must go to the hospital promptly, especially if there is already a condition like redness, pain, or blurred vision in the eye. If a hospital visit is made and corneal damage is found, it must be treated aggressively. If the damage is to the corneal epithelium, often anti-inflammatory treatment plus nourishing corneal treatment, usually the next day or the third day will recover. If the injury is deeper and damages the stromal layer, there may be some scarring after healing. But often the effect of elimination treatment is also good, and rarely seen to affect vision. If the laceration is more severe, forming a penetrating injury or is particularly deep, it will often cause corneal edema. If the penetrating injury causes hemorrhage, pus accumulation or inflammatory reaction in the anterior chamber, this type of condition requires more attention. The first step is to prevent infection with aggressive medication. Secondly, surgery may be required to treat the anterior chamber problem, or surgery may be required to close the wound. There may also be a need for an aid, such as a bandage lens, to ensure better healing of the cornea.
