What to do if the drainage of a liver abscess is unsuccessful

Liver lobectomy may be considered for unsuccessful drainage of liver abscesses.
Perforation and drainage is an important method of treating liver abscesses. For larger abscesses with the possibility of penetration, or those that have already penetrated and caused complications such as peritonitis or pyothorax, abscess incision and drainage can be performed for treatment. If abscess incision and drainage is unsuccessful, lobectomy or segmental resection of the liver may be considered.
Liver lobectomy may be considered for chronic liver abscesses, the presence of dead space or sinusoids, and multiple liver abscesses that have failed drainage therapy and the corresponding liver lobes have lost normal function. Surgery is effective in removing the primary lesion and helping to control the infection.
If you feel unwell, please go to the hospital as soon as possible and receive treatment.
