Monkeypox disease virus is monkey smallpox virus, a zoonotic viral infection characterized by a distinctive rash on the skin. Monkeypox is primarily caused by transmission of the monkey smallpox virus. Monkeypox can be contracted from the bite of an animal infected with the monkey smallpox virus, or from contact with the blood, body fluids, or rash of a person infected with the monkey smallpox virus. People such as field workers and pet lovers will be relatively more susceptible to monkeypox. The common symptoms of monkeypox include fever, fatigue, chills, rash and swollen lymph nodes. In severe cases, a series of complications such as sepsis, encephalitis, lung infection and respiratory distress syndrome may also occur.
