Dangers of corns

The main danger of corns is the pain caused by the pressure on the peripheral nerves in the dermis. Corns are mainly due to long-term mechanical stimulation caused by overgrowth of the stratum corneum, and are most common on the lateral side of the little toe or the inner edge of the thumb, but also on the back of the toes and the heel and other parts of the foot. The skin lesions appear as well-demarcated yellow, or dark yellow, conical plugs with a smooth surface, flat or slightly elevated, which can be compressed by the tips of the plugs against the peripheral nerves in the dermis, leading to compression when standing or walking, and resulting in self-consciousness and severe pain. Corns should be avoided as much as possible by avoiding friction and extrusion, and women should avoid wearing high-heeled shoes. For treatment, corns can be treated with topical corns cream, salicylic acid ointment, or the corns can be removed through surgery. It is recommended to consult a doctor in time, and the specific treatment should be carried out under the guidance of the doctor.
