What does single-positive mean? Is a single-positive new coronavirus a confirmed diagnosis?

Single-positive refers to the new coronavirus nucleic acid test, only one of the two gene loci appear positive, can not confirm the diagnosis of infection with the new coronavirus, it is recommended to retest as soon as possible.

At present, the nucleic acid test for the new coronavirus in China usually uses the real-time fluorescence RT-PCR method, which detects two loci in the gene of the new coronavirus, namely, the 1ab locus and the N locus. These two sites tend to be positive at the same time, suggesting infection with this virus.

If only one locus is positive and the other is negative, it is likely that there is a testing error and the diagnosis of neocoronavirus infection cannot be confirmed.

However, a single positive NCR test does not exclude detection errors at the negative sites, and should be repeated as soon as possible, preferably with both nasal and throat swabs, to help increase the accuracy of the test.
