There are two possible common causes of throbbing pain behind the ear. One is caused by inflammation, when there may be redness and swelling around it, with obvious pressure pain, and there may be lumps when felt. Consider it caused by folliculitis, sebaceous gland infection, or inflammation of lymph nodes in the skin behind the ear, which can be treated symptomatically with anti-inflammatory drugs. The other is that there is no redness or swelling of the surrounding skin, no obvious lumps are felt, and there is no obvious pressure pain, which is considered to be neuropathic pain. In case of neuropathic pain, it is recommended that the patient apply heat and physical therapy, and if necessary, take nerve-nourishing and symptomatic pain medication. If the patient is now unable to clarify exactly which kind of pain, it is recommended to promptly go to the hospital for examination to clarify the cause of the disease before treatment.
