Paraneoplastic syndrome of primary liver cancer, also known as “evening cancer syndrome” or “paraneoplastic syndrome”, refers to a group of syndromes caused by the abnormal metabolism of the cancer itself, or by substances produced by the cancer entering the bloodstream and acting on distant tissues in patients with primary liver cancer. The syndrome is caused by the abnormal metabolism of the cancer itself, or the entry of some substances produced by the cancer into the bloodstream and its effect on the distant tissues, which causes various effects on the body.

Concomitant cancer syndrome can sometimes occur before the local symptoms of liver cancer and become the first symptom.

People are familiar with the typical clinical manifestations of hepatocellular carcinoma, but lack sufficient understanding and attention to the syndrome of associated carcinoma, which may lead to missed diagnosis and misdiagnosis.

There are 10 types of primary hepatocellular carcinoma with cancer syndromes, mainly including

  • hypoglycemia;
  • erythrocytosis;
  • hypercalcemia;
  • hyperlipidemia, hypercholesterolemia;
  • Altered sexual characteristics;
  • Dermal porphyrias;
  • Leukemia-like reactions;
  • Thrombocythemia;
  • hyperfibrinogenemia;
  • Other, such as polyneuropathy, hemolytic anemia, hypertrophic osteoarthropathy, hyperthyroidism, etc.
