Can diabetic patients get dental implants?

In 1980, the incidence of diabetes in China was 1%, about 13 million people, but now it is more than 50 million, which is the second highest in the world, among which type 2 diabetes is the most common, accounting for about 90% of the total. Fiorellini’s clinical study found that the success rate of implants in type 2 diabetic patients was about 85%, while in Thomas Beikler’s study on the success rate of implants in normal people of all ages, the long-term survival rate of implants was more than 95% on average, which shows that the failure rate of implants in diabetic patients is significantly higher than that of ordinary patients with missing teeth. However, the implant surgery can be performed in general with blood glucose control below 8.88 mmol/L and the original treatment plan of diabetes unchanged. Patients with severe diabetes or complications of nephropathy should be treated before surgery because they are prone to postoperative infection.
