What are the branches of the saphenous vein

The saphenous vein is the longest vein in the body and is superficially located. There are five main branches of the saphenous vein: the superficial spinococcygeal vein, the superficial abdominal wall vein, the medial femoral vein, the lateral femoral vein, and the external pubic vein. When performing a high saphenous vein ligation and stripping, each of the five branches is ligated to prevent recurrence of the saphenous vein after surgery. Due to the variability of the saphenous vein branches in individual patients, sometimes all five branches are not found at the same time, and the details should be analyzed intraoperatively.
