Scopolamine Efficacy and Effects

The efficacy of scopolamine is to block peripheral M cholinergic receptors, and its action is to relax smooth muscle, dilate pupils, and inhibit salivary gland secretion. The commonly used clinical dosage forms of scopolamine include tablets, injections and eye drops, of which tablets and injections are mainly used for relieving smooth muscle spasm, relieving gastrointestinal colic, biliary spasm and other conditions, and can also be used for the treatment of organophosphorus poisoning. Racemic scopolamine eye drops, on the other hand, are mainly used for the treatment of pseudomyopia in adolescents. It should be noted that the use of any preparation of scopolamine is prohibited for those who are allergic to any of the components of this drug, the use of tablets and injections is prohibited for patients with increased intracranial pressure, acute stage of cerebral hemorrhage, intestinal obstruction, pyloric obstruction, glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy, and the use of drops is prohibited for those who have glaucoma and high intraocular pressure. Some patients may experience adverse reactions such as dry mouth, red face, blurred vision, rapid heartbeat, difficulty in urination when using tablets and injections, and slight pupil dilation, blurred vision when using eye drops, etc. If the discomfort is more serious, patients should consult a doctor in time.
