Left choroid plexus cyst is a kind of cyst in the choroid plexus within the ventricles of the brain. Physiologic cysts usually disappear after 26 weeks of pregnancy and do not affect fetal growth and development, whereas pathologic cysts will continue to increase in size and will have some impact on fetal brain development.
Choroid plexus cysts are round cystic echogenic structures, mostly unilateral, with a diameter of less than 10 mm. left-sided choroid plexus cysts may also occur in normal fetuses, but they are transient physiologic cysts, which usually appear in the early and mid-pregnancy and disappear after 26 weeks.
A small number of fetuses have pathologic choroid plexus cysts, which are increasing in size, causing symptoms such as increased intracranial pressure and intracranial compression. The fetus may have viral infections, chromosomal abnormalities, etc., and further amniocentesis is needed to clarify the condition.
It is recommended that pregnant women should go to the hospital for regular checkups when the condition of choroid plexus cyst on the left side of the fetus occurs during the obstetric examination and pay attention to the growth and development of the fetus, and if there is any problem, it is recommended to follow the doctor’s instructions to deal with the treatment.
