Difference between urinary protein and proteinuria

Urine protein is the presence of protein in the urine, when urine protein > 150mg/24h can be called proteinuria. Theoretically there is no substantial difference between urinary protein and proteinuria. Urine protein suggests the presence of protein in the urine view examination, can be characterized as (+) ~ (++++), need to receive quantitative examination when necessary; proteinuria refers to when there is protein in the urine > 150mg/24h. Under normal circumstances, a small amount of urinary protein can be present in human urine. When urinary protein exceeds normal and becomes proteinuria, it can usually be caused by physiologic or pathologic factors. Physiologic factors, such as strenuous exercise and excessive meat consumption, generally do not require special treatment. Pathologic factors are usually suggestive of renal disease and are commonly seen in a variety of kidney diseases, such as acute nephritis, primary glomerulonephritis, and nephrotic syndrome. Usually, once the appearance of proteinuria is observed, it is necessary to undergo a 24-hour quantitative urine protein test, and also relevant clinical symptoms to clarify the diagnosis. It is recommended that patients with proteinuria should go to the hospital in time, complete the relevant examinations under the guidance of the doctor to clarify the cause, and if it is caused by pathological factors, it should be actively treated.
