Hemorrhoids are generally not recommended to be cleaned with baking soda. The main clinical treatment for hemorrhoids is to choose a sitz bath with compound bitter ginseng lotion, compound cypress lotion, or potassium permanganate solution as well as anal lotion. It is usually used after defecation or before bedtime, and the sitz bath lasts about 5-10 minutes, which can play a very good anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving, heat-clearing, dampness-drying, and itch-relieving effect, and is more effective for the treatment of anal dampness, itching, and anal swelling caused by hemorrhoids. Baking soda is mainly an alkaline solution that can inhibit the reproduction of Candida albicans, which is more effective in treating mycosis fungoides in women. However, it is not recommended for hemorrhoids because of its poor therapeutic effect. Baking soda may irritate the skin in the perianal area with long-term use, leading to local discomfort in the anus. If the patient’s hemorrhoids are not serious, you can usually just use warm salt water to clean the perianal area.
