The main causative agent of chronic periodontitis is dental plaque, and the treatment mostly consists of basic treatment, medication and surgery.
1. Basic treatment: the basic treatment of chronic periodontitis is supragingival scaling and subgingival scraping. Periodontitis first need to completely remove the irritant, namely tartar, gingival tartar using scaling, subgingival calculus using scraping for removal, such as root surface inflammation is obvious, but also need to carry out root planing.
Root planing is to scrape away the infected bone, thus removing the irritants that cause periodontal inflammation and helping the periodontal tissues to heal.
2. Medication: rinses, topical creams, antibiotics, etc. are often used. It is recommended to use rinses with anti-inflammatory ingredients, such as compound chlorhexidine rinse. Local creams can be applied to the gum margin, such as minocycline hydrochloride gel. Antibiotics, such as amoxicillin, metronidazole, azithromycin, etc., can also be applied.
3. Surgical treatment: the purpose is to make the periodontal pockets shallower or eliminate them, and generally use gingival flap surgery. After cutting the gums to expose the tooth root and alveolar bone, subgingival cleaning and root surface leveling, but also the alveolar bone can be trimmed, which helps the recovery of periodontal tissues.
Chronic periodontitis requires systematic treatment to effectively control, it is recommended to go to a regular hospital and follow the doctor’s instructions for medication.
