What to do if you find a ground-glass lung nodule

Pure ground glass nodules and mixed ground glass nodules are classified according to the internal density. It is recommended to consult a respiratory physician or thoracic surgeon in the hospital when lung ground glass nodules are found, and the physician will deal with them according to the chest CT review, etc. Most of the nodules need to be observed regularly and operated if necessary. 1. Ground-glass nodules found for the first time: ① Inflammation is likely, first anti-infection treatment and review, if the nodule becomes smaller or disappears, consider inflammation. If the nodule becomes smaller or disappears, inflammation is considered. ② The first discovery of ground-glass nodules should be followed up by CT in 3 months, and if there is no change, CT should be followed up again in 6 months, and if there is no change in the nodule, it is recommended to be followed up every year. 2. Lung ground glass nodules less than 5mm do not need to be treated, but need to be followed up regularly for observation. 3. Minimally invasive surgical treatment: ① Pure ground-glass nodules increase in size to 8mm or increase in density during the review process. Mixed ground-glass nodules are larger than 8mm, with no change or more solid components. 4. Pure ground-glass nodules that remain unchanged for a long time may be adenomatous hyperplasia or carcinoma in situ, which should be followed up regularly or treated with surgery. Regular review is needed for pulmonary ground-glass nodules, especially for patients over 40 years old, long-term smokers, patients with family history of malignant tumors or high-risk patients with family history of lung cancer, it is recommended to go to the hospital as early as possible for further counseling and diagnosis and treatment.
