When to start treatment for chronic gonorrhea

No treatment is required in the early stages of chronic gonorrhea, and initiation of treatment is recommended when the disease is active. Treatment can also be initiated when the patient has a strong desire for treatment.
1. Current findings suggest that regular follow-up is sufficient for early-stage patients and that no treatment is needed for the time being.
2. Initiation of treatment is recommended when the disease enters an active state. Treatment is initiated when disease-related symptoms are present, including non-infectious fever (more than 38°C) for more than 2 weeks, night sweats, a 10% loss of body weight over a 6-month period when no other cause is present, and extreme fatigue.
Treatment was also required for the combination of a giant spleen or progressive splenomegaly and pain in the splenic region, progressive enlargement or diameter of lymph nodes greater than 10 cm, progressive increase or doubling time of peripheral blood lymphocytes of less than 6 months, autoimmune haematopoiesis, ineffectiveness of glucocorticoid therapy, progressive bone marrow failure, and progressive exacerbation of anaemia and/or thrombocytopenia.
Treatment may also be initiated when the patient has a strong desire for treatment.
Diagnosis and treatment of specific diseases need to be under the supervision of a physician.
