Chinese Herbal Soup for Relieving Liver and Qi, Relieving Depression and Resolving Phlegm

Commonly used Chinese medicinal herbs to ease the liver and regulate qi (to regulate the stagnation of liver qi), and to relieve depression and resolve phlegm include Phlegm Conducting Soup and Half-summer and Thick-stem Soup. However, the specific medication should be decided by the doctor according to the patient’s condition.

Phlegm-conducting Tang: It is used to treat phlegm and saliva congestion (abnormal phlegm, excessive production of saliva), dizziness; or phlegm-beverage (pathological products of impaired metabolism of water and liquid) that stagnates and is not dispersed, with constriction in the chest and diaphragm, fullness and distension of the ribs and chest, headache and vomiting, wheezing and phlegm coughing, sticky mucus and saliva, restlessness in lying down, and little thought about food and drink.

Semixia Houpu Tang: It has the effects of promoting qi circulation and dispersing lumps (smoothing the qi of the body and dissolving the lumps), and lowering rebelliousness and resolving phlegm (correcting retrograde qi and removing phlegm from the body). It is used for treating plum nucleus qi (similar to pharyngeal allodynia), symptoms such as obstruction in the pharynx, inability to vomit, swallowing, chest and diaphragm full of stuffiness, coughing or vomiting, and so on.

If you feel unwell, it is recommended that you seek medical advice promptly. If medication is needed, it should be diagnosed by a doctor and treated in accordance with the doctor’s instructions.
