Does optic nerve atrophy affect the other eye?

Most optic nerve atrophy does not affect the other eye, however, causes of optic nerve atrophy may affect the other eye, such as optic neuritis and glaucoma. Optic nerve atrophy, refers to any disease that causes lesions to occur in the ganglion cells of the retina and its axons, and some of the diseases that cause optic nerve atrophy may occur in both eyes at the same time or sequentially. Therefore, it is not the optic nerve atrophy lesion itself that causes the lesion in the other eye. Therefore, when optic nerve atrophy occurs in one eye, it is necessary to go to the hospital in a timely manner for examination to clarify the cause of the disease, and actively carry out targeted treatment, i.e., to treat the cause of optic nerve atrophy, so as to avoid affecting the other eye.
