What should I do if my toe is swollen and has pus?

Swollen toes and pus accumulation are mostly caused by nail fungus and subxiphoid abscess, and treatment is mostly surgical, which requires incision of the posterior nail fold to remove the pus, and removal of part or all of the nail depending on the extent of the infection, otherwise it is easy to have poor drainage and repeated episodes of further infection. For all toe abscesses which may be purulent dactylitis, such as purulent dactylitis caused by stab wounds plus infection extrusion, an incision should be made to drain the toe, and a longitudinal incision should be made above the finger belly so that the toe is completely open and the sides are drained by counterparts. It must be treated promptly, otherwise the abscess will not be easily removed and will develop into septic tenosynovitis by entering the flexor tendon sheath below.
