Can chronic otitis media be cured?

Chronic otitis media is a chronic inflammatory change of the mastoid cavity of the middle ear, often accompanied by perforation of the eardrum, chronic pus flow (intermittent or continuous), and hearing loss. This is summarized as “pus, deafness, and perforation”. Usually, surgical treatment is required to eradicate the lesions in the mastoid cavity to cure the disease. This type of disease was difficult to treat in the past because our country was poor and hospitals could not afford electric drills and microscopes, and surgery was rarely performed. Patients felt that it was difficult to eradicate the root of the disease, and they were discouraged by the treatment. So it is not cured. Now the country is rich, medical equipment has advanced, science and technology have also advanced, and so has the technology of doctors. Therefore, most chronic otitis media can be cured now. The goal of chronic otitis media treatment includes two aspects: 1. to end ear drainage; 2. to strive to improve hearing.
