Brain infarction can cause Alzheimer’s disease. If the Alzheimer’s disease is caused by brain infarction, it is clinically known as vascular dementia, which is mostly seen in patients with recurrent lacunar cerebral infarction and multiple infarcts, and is mainly treated by giving etiological treatment. In patients with lacunar cerebral infarction, common etiologies include hypertension and diabetes mellitus. The treatment of this disease focuses on antiplatelet aggregation, neuroprotection, and improvement of blood circulation, along with control of risk factors. The main drugs used to improve blood circulation are Shuxin, Vibrameruptone and Chuanxiongzine. For neuroprotective treatment, edaravone, cytidylcholine, cerebroprotein hydrolysate and olacitant and piracetam are applied. Anti-platelet aggregation drugs are preferred to aspirin, and if aspirin is not tolerated, clopidogrel can also be applied. Most patients with recurrent infarction are caused by atherosclerosis. Patients usually have hyperlipidemia and should be given lipid-lowering therapy at the same time, and commonly used lipid-lowering drugs include simvastatin, resulvastatin, atorvastatin, etc.
